HuRTS 14 x 3mins

Farm Cove is too busy so 16 of us headed over to Rushcutters to run it around the Oval. For the front group, 3 minutes is almost exactly 2 laps (at 3:20 pace). With the race in 2 days I only ran 8 and with MC at 3:30 (or a nudge under) pace. Felt comfortable. Getting nervous. Hot out there? Not enough water? Got ulcer. Perhaps a sign of peaking? God knows. Not raced in 2 months - can't be good. 3km race was off the back of a good build up. All the negative thoughts are flowing...

Dave Clarke was smashing the reps out today, with Muz and Durante next up running together looking strong.

Anonymous #1 and Anonymous #2, agree. You're right. Should just race it. But I've been through this dilemma a million times before. My problem tends to be I assume I'm going too fast when I don't have a watch and so slow down. Whereas when I wear one and check it, I realise I'm only running 75's or whatever and just dig in and get on with it. Ultimately I'm not really fussed with the time, more interested in who I can beat.

I reckon you will run 15:30. The board at the 200m mark is too hard to read. The finish one is better so run with a watch at least.

My form guide:-

I'll tip a fast race with Westcott and Rowe the favourites, sub 13.45 if conditions are good, with Hunt also a chance of sub 14. Look for a big pack just in behind them including Thurston, Bromley, Nipperess, Summers, Johnston, Warren and my tip for a big race, the rapidly improving, strong and smooth Vince Shepherd from Blacktown. Look for a battle to the death at about 14.45ish between Caleb and Nick Cope looking for a big one before the wedding of the century this weekend. An exciting battle will unfold between Truscott and Highnam in the 15.20's, i expect Truscott to kick as Highnam glances at his watch for the 25th time, can Tom respond in time? 800m man Durante will finish just in front of this duel in 15.10ish. Somewhere towards the tail of the F grade race there may be a confused looking half Jap RBH fella, please wake him up and alert him to how many laps are remaining, thanks in advance. I tip somewhere between 15.50 and 18.00 for this modern day marvel of inconsistency.

Girls race, i tip Tamsett in 15.40 from Wyss 16.15ish in 2nd likely to profit from the carnage Tamsett leaves behind with Emery, Vernon, Flint, Ponton and Martin battling for 3rd.

Good luck all, for more info visit whogivesashitwhattigerthinks.com.au

Like your post, Tiger. I fear the forum dictates that you're being a bit bullish about my chances though. CT is far too strong at the moment (I'll wait 3 or 4 months for 150km weeks to kick in). More likely is a tussle between DrJH, Chamkaur and someone like Brad Milosevic. Maybe keep Chadi in sight if he runs. I reckon Fossil will be giving it a crack too. Durante is on birthday duties so won't be running.

I like your tip for the Shepster. He's come a long way from the medical tent at the Gold Coast 18 months ago. One of Blacktown's finest - Beaky would be proud. A few big names you've missed out though, including Russ Chin and Philo Saunders. Should be a cracker.

I thought you were going in the 800m?

Vince is a great runner. He has a very, very, very smart coach too which is a big plus. I doubt whether Vince will have peaked for this race (I think his focus will be a month or two away) but I expect him to run somewhere between 14.30 to 14.45.

For a guy that was running 17 minutes for 5km only 2 years ago (roughly), he has improved out of sight under his new coach. He has a great physique for 5km running and will improve in a big way over the next 12 months.

Good luck Tom. Forget the doubts. Enjoy the nerves. Run fast.

Nearly ready to try a 400 or 800, hammy is good, just need a few specific sessions. I'm looking forward to the 5km though, it should be fun.

Truthy says,

crap tipping Tiger, i've been told to trust your form as gospel...why didn't you factor in hunt and nipper having a smoko on the back while rowe crazily worked himself to a stand still in front?

your hot tip shepherd was hiding in the B race, i saw you cheering like a bitch on heat for him...is it love?

wrong by 30 sec on cope and wegener

the only thing truscott was kicking with 200m to go was his drink bottle...dnf

highnam, wrong again by 15sec, clearly a 3km specialist.

durante dns

good to see you take the soft option and roll out a 5km when your actual race distance 800m was on the program. from 3rd last/16th with 1km to go and 9th at the finish. i bet you wish someone woke you up before the bell, nice last lap bludger!

tamsett wrong by 38sec, your worst tip of the night

i'll actually congratulate you on the wyss tip though, she did work her way through the field nicely

i look forward to your next form guide, hopefully it improves and your form will be better than your running

My top ten:-
Run of the night - Matt Hammond - Champion
2nd best run - Jeremy Roff - lookout
3rd - Nipperess - young and smart, that's an unusual combo
4th - Rowe - silly but tough as nuts and talent to burn
5th - Tamsett - dominant win over a world xc rep
6th - Hunt - smart
7th - Kiwi 800 girl - sweet mover
8th - Summers - young and improving rapidly
9th - Westcott - big balls!!!
10th - Vernon - fought the whole way
